Also if you like roleplaying, Starbound gives you a lot to work with. I hardly built anything in Starbound at all, as a matter of fact. Starbound is awesome for building. Terraria is fun for an RPG where you also happen to be able to build. Starbound takes the genre into an entirely new level though by taking place over an entire universe. Starbound is also very fun to mod, and some mods even work in multiplayer.

Starbound has alot more as far as creation is concerned, from a base-building perspective, whereas Terraria is much more combat-focused, which felt really bad for me when i switched personally, because i prefered Terraria's take on combat, and was never much of a builder.
I personally like Starbound more, but only for pretty surface level reasons. I think in the end, its like chocolate and vanilla. I like the space exploration theme more, and the fact I can go to multiple planets and mine the ♥♥♥♥ out of them instead of being stuck on one world. The game offers a Terraria like experience with players exploring procedurally generated worlds in a 2D fashion. 3. 2. Players are no longer limited to a single world with the option to pack up their belongings and jump to an entirely new planet that promises a different experience to the last. Grinding is said to be a horrible feature in games, but it's essential, both starbound and terraria have grinding, but starbound has alot more of a skill-based fighting system rather than the "i have better gear" system of terraria. Yes and no.
Depends on what you're looking for. The long and short of this section is I spent way more time (ratio-wise) exploring worlds in Starbound than in Terraria, and more time building in Terraria than in Starbound. I personally like a bit of both Terraria and Starbound.
